Connecting with your Community

Course Content

Church is about people and community is about people. Connecting with your community is therefore about people connecting with people. Sounds simple doesn't it...but is it? As a collective group of Christian people, the church recognizes its role in the community.

But who, where and what are the communities the local church should be reaching today? How is this best done? What works and what doesn't? How do we know what we do is effective? Can we be more effective? What models, if any, does Jesus give us in the Bible.

With this in mind the three session course will focus on the questions:-

  • Who, what and where are our communities and how do we connect with them?
  • What are biblical models for engagement with community and how might they be applicable today.
  • How can we increase effectiveness recognise fruitfulness and develop our work in the community?

Who is it for?

This course is primarily for Christians who, as individuals or as part of the church, wish to be more effective in engaging and connecting with their local communities. It is therefore particularly relevant for church leadership teams looking to evaluate their work in the community, volunteers helping in community projects and those with a more professional involvement in the community. The course will be helpful for people starting community work from scratch or those who want to take stock of their existing practices so as to be even more effective in the future.

'Connecting with your Community' will be presented from a Christian perspective but like all courses it will be conducted in a non-threatening and non-judgmental atmosphere. There will be opportunity for discussion and questions.
